COSMOS STANDARD AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

The COSMOS STANDARD is the first internationally-recognized procedural guideline
that promotes the development of natural or organic cosmetics on the market.
The certification imposes requirements that push companies to continue on the path of research and innovation.
What are this standard’s strong points?

1. HARMONIZATION

The COSMOS STANDARD was developed by the 5 main European
certification bodies and founding members:
ICEA (Italy)
BDIH (Germany)
COSMEBIO (France)
ECOCERT (France)
SOIL ASSOCIATION (United Kingdom)

2. INNOVATION
The Standard encourages the development of new production processes
and ingredients so that the products created can reconcile consumer needs
and compliance with the principles of the Standard itself.

3. SUSTAINABILITY
The COSMOS STANDARD assessment requirements consider the environmental
impact of production and packaging, and promote organic agriculture
and sustainable cultivation systems. The certifying body also assesses
the environmental impact of the company requesting certification.

4. TRANSPARENCY
COSMOS AISL is a non-profit association with no market interests, formed by accredited
certification bodies. It allows free access to the Standard’s criteria and to the database
of approved raw materials and products, providing significant support for development.

5. INTERNATIONALIZATION
The COSMOS certification is recognized in all countries of the world and works
with international legislation in the field of cosmetic and organic product certification. Indeed,
it is growing quickly thanks to the strength of its partners and the solidity of the Standard itself.

DERIVED GLYCERIN
Plant-derived glycerin is particularly suitable
for skincare. It stands out for its humectant
properties, protecting the scalp from dehydration.
When used in a cosmetic product, glycerin
is also able to transport active ingredients,
enhancing their beneficial effects on the skin.
It is a very gentle substance, and causes no
irritation.

SKIN-FRIENDLY THICKENERS
Fully plant-derived, these ingredients reduce
the possibility of irritation caused by a product’s
cleansing action. They also enhance the
hydrating properties of the formula.

GENTLE EMOLLIENT AGENTS
Like the previous ingredients, these are also
plant-derived. They increase the nourishing,
silky effect of the formulas, improving how
they feel on the skin.

FRAGRANCES OF NATURAL ORIGIN
In Cosmos certified formulas, we use only fragrances
that are 100% of natural origin.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC EXTRACTS
In all our formulations, we use oils and extracts
coming from organic agriculture, from
certified crops that use no GMOs, pesticides
or other chemical agents harmful to human
health or the environment.

NON-ETHOXYLATED SURFACTANTS
These surfactants are of natural origin, making
them easily biodegradable and highly
skin-friendly, while maintaining a well-balanced
level of cleansing power. They respect
even the most sensitive scalp, protecting its
health and its hydrolipidic film.

SENSITIVE AND LENITIVE LINES

The scalp is exposed daily to numerous factors that weaken it: pollution, stress, climatic conditions, allergies or the use of aggressive cleansers. This can cause high levels of sensitivity and vulnerability, in the form of itching, dryness, redness or excessive reactivity to the touch.
